Typically, participants dial a phone number and then key in a conference room code which routes them to the appropriate teleconference. Once all participants are on the line and joined, they can begin interacting and collaborating over the phone line. While international and domestic conference calls share similarities, several key differences and challenges are involved with an international call.

International Dialing Basics
The first difference involves international dialing which can be confusing if you aren’t familiar with calling different countries. If you are located in the United States or Canada and will be dialing participants in other nations, you may need to be familiar with international dialing conventions. In general, you would dial 011 (which is the “exit code” for USA and Canada) followed by the country’s “country code” followed by the phone number. For example, if you are calling a participant in London, you’d first enter 011 followed by 44 (which is the country code for the United Kingdom) followed by the participant’s phone number.

If the participants will be dialing directly into the conference call, they also may be unfamiliar with dialing international numbers.
